Rate-sensitive equities, homebuilders, real estate investment trusts, and home-furnishing retailers would face pressure. Consumer credit could deteriorate if households compensate for higher housing costs with cards or variable-rate loans. The risk is not automatically a repeat of 2008. Underwriting standards and bank capital are different. But a system can become fragile without repeating the same architecture.
The contrarian conclusion is that a housing affordability decline may strengthen some blockchain businesses while weakening the grandest claims of the sector. Distressed households may seek cheaper financial services, transparent credit records, and alternative ownership models. Builders may use distributed ledgers for permits, construction payments, and title reconciliation. These are practical applications. They address administrative friction.
They do not justify assuming that tokenization creates liquidity on demand. Liquidity is a network of willing buyers, credible information, legal remedies, and adequate capital.
